Open endings
While looking for traces of a friend’s family in old graveyards in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana we often came upon headstones carved without names or dates. Home in California I found similar nameless grave markers. I regard these carved-in-stone memorials as paradoxically freed by anonymity – open to other stories or memories. Just as these images record another story of meaning that slips away.
